Job Opening: Part Time Onsite Information Technology Technician
The Monroe Free Library seeks a Part Time Onsite Information Technology Technician that will report
directly to the Executive Director. This person will devise and implement strategies to maintain the library’s
network and provide on-the-ground IT support to library staff.
POSITION DUTIES
• Installs computer equipment and devices such as terminals, keyboards, printers, scanners, desktop
computers, and communications hardware; lays cable, installs connectors, assembles, and tests
equipment, installs software.
• Maintains network software and hardware including Office LAN, public terminals not under RCLS IT
contract, shared resources (file shares, scanners/copiers), public wi-fi APs and base station, server
maintenance (including certificates & databases), telephones and barrier control.
• Facilitates the selection of the library’s internal software solutions and trains staff and administration in
the use thereof.
• Interacts with RCLS in the interest of maintaining and upgrading public and ANSER terminals.
• Arranges for repairs & replacements as necessary.
• Directs and inspects work done by contractor involving the library’s digital network.
• Regularly updates the Library Website and participates in any projects relating to the website redesign
• Manages the contracts, renewals and administration of any Library purchased databases.
• As needed assist with the tech set up for programs and trainings.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be able to work independently.
• Self-directed and flexible in work routine to accommodate fluctuating workflow, which includes regular
interruption.
• Must have the ability to break down complex technical explanations for non-experts.
• Knowledge of electronic theory and practice as applied to the installation, maintenance and repair of
computers and related equipment.
• Knowledge of networking protocols.
• Knowledge of computer hardware.
• Ability to install, maintain and troubleshoot computer hardware and software.
• Facility with tools used in installation and testing of compute equipment.
PHYSICAL
• Ability to manipulate boxes and hardware weighing up to 75 pounds.
• Moderate strength to move tables and arrange furniture.
• Moderate flexibility to lay cables under tables and behind furniture.
• Manual dexterity for use of tools in hardware maintenance.
• Work involves possibility of exposure to electrical hazards.
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
A two-year degree in IT or Computer Science is preferred. This requirement may be waived if the candidate
has appropriate work history or can demonstrate proficiency through questioning or through an on-site
practical examination.
COMPENSATION
This union position pay rate is $20.00 per hour for a 40-hour bi-weekly pay period. Days and times within
Monday- Friday regular business hours can be flexible.
